Vintage Audio - Austro-Hungarian Emperor Karl I
Available here are is an audio files of Austria-Hungary's last Emperor, Karl I, recorded in the months prior to his accession to the combined Austro-Hungarian throne in November/December 1916.
Before the death of Emperor Franz-Josef I Karl served in active field command positions, a career which inevitably came to an abrupt end once he became Emperor.
In the audio clip, recorded on 16 February 1916, Karl gives his formal blessing to the Imperial Austrian Fund established to aid military widows and orphans (use the player above).
An "incendiary shell" is an artillery shell packed with highly flammable material, such as magnesium and phosphorous, intended to start and spread fire when detonated.
